Jo Gatford
Hi.
My name’s Jo. I’m a writer from Brighton UK, and I want to live on your bookshelf.
I’m an award-winning novelist, poet, playwright, screenwriter and short fiction author. My work has won the Bath Flash Award, Flash 500, the Molotov Cocktail Flash Contest, the Voices from Home playwriting contest and the Shooter Lit Poetry Competition, and has been long/shortlisted and published in over 50 literary journals, competitions and anthologies. You can read some of them here >
My chapbook, The Woman’s Part, was published in 2023 by Stanchion Books and my novel, White Lies, won the Luke Bitmead bursary and was published by Legend Press in 2014. Find out more about both books here >
You can also read interviews and press about my work here >
In 2023 I was awarded a Arts Council Develop Your Creative Practice grant to complete a novel draft, and CenterFrame development funding to complete a historical drama TV pilot.
More recently I have been developing my skills as a narrative desigher, with interactive fiction published by Voidspace and several games and IF pieces in the works.
For the last decade I have taught creative writing workshops and worked with writers to develop and edit their work. For the last fifteen years I’ve crafted web copy, social media content, and choreographed marketing strategies for businesses large and small. I was also the co-founder of Writers’ HQ, a creative writing organisation for writers with no time or money. In my work for WHQ I developed over 25 writing courses, ran hundreds of workshops, webinars and writing retreats, and championed accessibility and equity in the literary industry.
